On my recent travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I made sure my hotel accommodations are at the vicinity of 3 places I wanted to visit. First of course is the Petronas Twin Towers, The first time I’ve seen the towers was when the place was still relatively new and was still the tallest building in the world. This time I wanted to see really close, it means right at the window of my hotel where I will stay.
I have chosen Hotel Maya booked thru Agoda, the hotel is located along Jalan Ampang across is the Petronas Twin Tower, I specifically chose a room facing the towers. As an added bonus the hotel is also near Jalan P Ramlee, a street where some of the popular nightclubs and bars are located.
Second being a Food Blogger I wanted to stay near the famous food center in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Alor, to experience firsthand some of the local food favorites. Jalan Alor a street next to Jalan Bukit Bintang, the street is lined on both sides with all kinds of restaurants and hawker food stalls. During the day there is not much activity, some of the bigger restaurants are open during the day to serve breakfast and lunch but most start serving before dark for early dinners and go on for late dinners and drinking parties.
There are plenty of hotel near the area to choose from defending on one’s budget, I stayed at The Royale Bingtang Hotel also booked thru Agoda, it was a perfect place right at the center of Bukit Bintang and just across the road is Jalan Alor Food Street. It is also close to the China Town.
Third I also wanted to be near the China Town where Kota Raya Shopping Complex is located, this is the place where some of the Pinoy restaurants and eateries are located in Kuala Lumpur. This is also the place where most Pinoy in Kuala Lumpur send remittance money to their love ones back in the Philippines. Kota Raya is not only the place for Pinoy eateries or remittance agents it is a place where our kababayan in Kuala Lumpur go for shopping for Pinoy foods products, all kinds of affordable mens and ladies wears, etc. or just simply the place where friends meet during their free days or day offs. Kota Raya is similar to Lucky Plaza in Singapore.
Just across the road is Petaling Street, the center of Kuala Lumpur’s China Town. Petaling Street Market is infamous place to buy pirated items from bootleg CD to imitation clothes, shoes, bags and all king of accessories. The place is normally crowded especially during the evenings. When shopping on this place haggling is a norm, you have to be good and persistent in bargaining. Petaling Street Market is also a place if you are looking for affordable restaurants and food stalls that served local favorites.
